Real Estate Is What I Do, Not All I Am...

not-all-I-am

Real Estate is what I do, not all I am. I am more than a Realtor. I am a mother, a friend, a writer, a teacher and most of all a servant to the One who created me. When my empowered self vibrates in an orgasmic rush of energy, all things are possible.

In 1988, I was managing Joyce Rey’s financial affairs while working for a prestigious Business Management firm in Beverly Hills. One day, Joyce walked in with that iconic Tiffany blue box tied with a white satin ribbon and inside the box was a cobalt blue Limoges miniature chest trimmed in gold.

For those of you reading this blog who are not familiar with Joyce Rey, she is recognized as one of the top real estate authorities, Broker extraordinaire, world-wide. She is also a single mother and we had many conversations about the challenges of raising our children alone. She handed me the box and simply said, “Victoria, you need to think about yourself and your children. Get your real estate license.”

Looking back, my happiest moments were spent as a family of three. Me, content with creating two small businesses that paid our bills, one was teaching Malibu’s first higher consciousness program to children, and the other one was managing others’ affairs; no cheers from the crowd, no standing ovations, no awards for being a top producer or handing out business cards to strangers, just a simple family, living a day at a time, trying to do what was right in God’s eyes.

When Joyce’s words: “Victoria, you need to think about yourself and your children,” I thought to myself, “Who am I to manifest such an abundant life?” I appreciated the grandness that only God can create, snow-capped mountains, glorious sunrises, enchanting sunsets, birds singing, children laughing, twinkling stars, majestic trees that seem to touch the skies, the sounds and smells of nature that keep me connected to source.

But, I was a single mother to beautiful souls who looked to me for shelter, food, education and spiritual guidance. I had carved out an income stream that would not sustain us for the long term. I believed my need to write, to teach, to help others attain their dreams, to throw myself into this cause or that cause is also an assignment I was given as a means to serve, and speaks to the intent of my heart. But, my intuition told me to listen and be open to attaining abundance that would insure a better future for me and my children.

When Joyce gifted me in ways she, herself, could not have imagined, her gesture of kindness and generosity, those simple words that accompanied the little cobalt blue miniature chest trimmed in gold changed the course of my life. It turned up the light within and opened a path for profound insights to manifest. “You can have it all,” whispered a familiar voice I had come to trust since childhood. A voice that lets me know it’s okay to love, appreciate and care for myself as well as others.

I listened to Joyce. I became a licensed Realtor in 1989, racking up over $100 million in sales during my career. In the beginning, I worked part time as a Realtor; selling just enough to afford seminars with healers like Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Marianne Williamson and many others committed to the healing of our bodies, minds and spirits. I traveled to Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California with my children for a month at a time immersing myself in spiritual growth. When I would find myself stretched too thin, I would remember Joyce’s words and her little blue box and reach out to my network of loyal clients and be blessed with another real estate sale.

After spending tens of thousands of dollars attending CTI (Coaches Training Institute), known to be the most rigorous coaching program in the country and writing my last book, Hello, Beautiful-How the Power of Self Love Heals & Transforms You Forever, I once again needed to infuse my bank account so the Universe sent me another light-filled, wondrous gift. I re-connected with my dear friends and clients, Steve and Tami Gross from Atlanta, who hired me to represent them for the 10th time over a span of 19 years. I sold their beautiful home in Pebble Beach, California in a record 3 days. I thought of Joyce as I traveled from Los Angeles, undeterred that is was almost 300 miles from point A to point B. It is one of the highlights of selling real estate anywhere, rather than a specific territory. I received my CRS (Certified Relocation Specialist) credentials and have worked with Fortune 500 companies relocating their executives. Because of Joyce’s inner dignity and air of beauty, her few words and a little blue box on an ordinary day, like any other ordinary day, I am living an extraordinary life.

Today, I look at my children and my heart soars with pride. My son, Kevin, graduated from Harvard, the first family member ever to accomplish this feat and has gone on to enjoy a rewarding career. My daughter, Candace, pursued her artistry and is living her dream designing jewelry and collaborating with other artisans to create pieces to adorn the spirit. My heart and soul are filled with gratitude that I was blessed to be a mother to these two amazing beings. “Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer.” — Maya Angelou

So, the next time you find yourself dreading having to get up and go to a job that doesn’t bring you fulfillment, worrying about how you are going to make ends meet, remember you are not what you do, but who you are, an empowered being…for this is your REAL self. Bring that part of yourself to your day and witness the miracles that will unfold for you.
