Free seminars, webinars, e-books and the plethora of other FREE online courses suggest that everything you need to heal and transform, you can obtain for free.
Well, folks, this is just not the truth. Over the past forty years, I have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars seeking out spiritual teachers in alignment with my journey.
From traveling to Big Sur, California to Esalen Institute, where I enrolled in both emotionally and spiritually healing workshops (which were quite expensive) to happily paying to listen to Marianne Williamson lecture for over 25 years, as well as contributing to events I attended to help raise money for her congressional campaign, to flying to Hawaii to be a participant in Dr. Wayne Dyer’s “Divine Love” workshop and everything in between, I can honestly say “I got what I paid for.” When I was in the middle of writing my second book, “Hello, Beautiful,” I hit a wall and I was on my knees in gratitude when Oprah and Deepak Chopra offered their meditation series for free. When I received follow up emails with a link to their store to purchase more empowering tapes, I purchased them. Those tapes which I listen to every morning helped me finish some of the hardest and most painful chapters in my book. And, yes, I can go to Google or You Tube and access the “Rockstars” of the spiritual movement’s videos for free, but it is not the same as creating your own library of tapes or books or attending comprehensive workshops, seminars, retreats or in-depth classes.
Since forming my group on Facebook, also titled “Hello, Beautiful,” I get dozens of posts every day from people who want me to share their upcoming “promo” to draw in attendees to an event they are leading. As an entrepreneur, I understand this type of marketing. However, many of these free invitations, as informative as they can be, are followed up with emails inviting you to sign up for one of their live (in person or streaming) events or enroll in a one on one coaching program. If your soul is stirred by their promotional content and it resonates with you, then think about either purchasing their tape, book or if you can afford it, sign up and attend one of their lectures, seminars or workshops.
A client recently contacted me to help her with a self-esteem problem that was paralyzing her with fear. She shared with me all the free online courses she had taken and couldn’t understand why she was still stuck in the same rut. My client hoped desperately these expert’s words of encouragement would miraculously heal her from a lifetime of unresolved wounds. What she had created in her mind simply was a fantasy. She never pursued working with any of these experts because she didn’t want to spend the money so she kept hopping around from one free promotional event after the other.
I worked with my client, on a sliding scale, and we did the “work.” Together, we went back to the where and when exercises I do with my coaching clients, sifting through what was real and what wasn’t, and she journaled, meditated, prayed, and, over time she began to heal and transform. It didn’t happen by listening to sound bites, glancing over inspirational picquotes or signing up for an online miracle cure…it takes time, commitment and faith to change our thoughts so we can open ourselves to a new way of living our lives, as God intended us to.
If you truly want to be the magnificent person you really are with your own unique, one of a kind talent and skills, then slow down, calm down, breathe and accept this will take time and effort and yes, a little money. You are worth it!!!
