This is my first blog. Did you know there are over 450 million English-speaking blogs in existence? Worldwide, it is estimated there are approximately one billion blogs. Over 386 million people view more than 13.3 billion pages each month so what words of wisdom can I write that someone else hasn’t already written? Is blogging just another source of fodder in the social networking world?
There are personal blogs, political blogs, health blogs, travel blogs, fashion blogs, project blogs, education blogs, niche blogs, legal blogs, dream blogs, music blogs and many more including women’s/ mompreneur blogs one made popular by Erica Diamond who created Womenonthefence.com which is syndicated to over two million readers monthly. A “blogger’s” dream but how many bloggers actually achieve much more than their friends or family members giving them the thumbs up?
All of the above information causes me to hear my parent’s words of caution when my dreams got too big, which of course resulted in being afraid of success as though that was for other people, but not within my reach. Instead of embracing their limited view of me, I wish I had opted to throw caution to the wind and take the plunge. (many plunges, infact) or read Marianne Williamson’s quote “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, it is that we are powerful beyond measure”, but as all “good girls” from that era, we did as we were told, secretly holding on to our dreams praying they won’t evaporate before they can be actualized.
One thing I know for certain is I am first and foremost a writer. When I am asked to write, whether it is an educational course, short story, poem, journaling, marketing material, whatever form requires the blaze of words, I’m ready and eager. Words shake me awake, jolting me into action.
I also pay attention to other energies inextricably connected to my task at hand. If you are like me and have multiple interests, skills and talents ( someone actually came up with a term for us: Multipotentialities) then you won’t be surprised that I keep many windows open on my computer when I write. You can never know when a message meant to be conveyed will come your way at just the right moment you need it. As I sit here and ponder my first blog, a video that seems to be channeled by divine intervention appears in one of the windows. The haunting lyrics of the Leonard Cohen classic, Hallelujah by “Mili” Miljenko Matijevic moved me to tears. I wanted to fall to my knees, filled with gratitude to be here in the present moment, given this incredible opportunity to express my creativity, connecting my words to the trillions of other words written by sweet souls who call ourselves “bloggers.”
So, thank you Mother and Father for teaching me the Ten Commandments, to serve people less fortunate, to save for a rainy day, but I was built to fearlessly express my truth with love. There was more inside of me than what appeared on the surface. There was a field of potentiality fighting to be understood and accepted.
Challenging myself to become a part of the blogging community I am removing my camouflage of memories I have been carting around far too long. An essential part of learning to love myself is to see myself through fresh eyes, to make the unfamiliar, familiar or is it the other way around? To make the familiar, unfamiliar? As I peel away the layers of the old me and embrace the new me, as I heal and transform knowing I can do anything I set my mind, skills and talents to I feel lighter and love flows into every aspect of my life releasing old patterns that no longer serve or define the authentic me.
Today, I declare I am a blogger and with over one billion blogs worldwide I am proud to be one billion and one. HALLELUAH!!!
